Located on the outskirts of Saundersfoot, Netherwood forms part of the Hean Castle Estate. The Grade II manor house and associated outbuildings were, until recently used as a boarding school.

Under the proposals, the existing buildings would be re-furbished as a high quality, exclusive use hotel.

Bat surveys identified at least three species bats using the buildings including common pipistrelle bat, brown long eared bat and lesser horseshoe bat.

The surveys were commissioned prior to the plans being drawn up, allowing mitigation to easily be incorporated into the scheme.

Mitigation includes the incorporation of access points to allow the bats to continue utilizing several of the roof spaces as is currently the case as well as a bat house adjacent to a new building which will house a biomass boiler.

Planning permission has been granted and the works will require a licence from Natural Resources Wales in due course.
